5-Aminosalicylic acid is used to relieve symptoms and to prevent their recurrence in inflammatory bowel disease.
This medication must be taken regularly to be fully effective. It should be taken precisely as prescribed by your physician.
Continue taking the medication until instructed by your physician to stop.
Contact your physician or pharmacist regarding refills. Abrupt discontinuation is not recommended.
Swallow tablets whole with plenty of water. Do not chew, break or crush them before swallowing. These tablets have a special coating that enables the drug to be released at the affected site, not before.
Side effects are very uncommon. If side effects occur contact your physician or pharmacist.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Take the remaining doses for that day at the regularly scheduled times.
Keep the medication in the container it came in and keep it out of the reach of children. Do not allow anyone else to take the medication.
