Abacavir and lamivudine are antiviral drugs used to treat patients infected
with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or to prevent infection.
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your physician, in the amount
prescribed. Taking more could increase the occurrence of adverse effects.
Take it regularly. Do not stop taking it without the approval of your
physician. If you do stop it, you must stop ALL of your antiviral
medications at the same time.
This drug may be taken with or without food.
The action of this drug could be altered by taking other drugs. No other
drugs should be used without the knowledge of your physician. Reduce
alcohol consumption, since it can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Inform your physician as soon as possible if these symptoms occur: unusual
sensations or numbness in the feet or legs; nausea, vomiting, or
abdominal pain; fever or persistent sore throat.
Women of childbearing age are advised to use contraception while taking
this medication.
Transmission of infection to other people is still possible while taking
this medication, therefore care should be taken to avoid exposing others.
Store this medication in its original labelled container, at room
temperature, away from heat, moisture and light, and out of the reach of
children.
