Almotriptan (al-moh-TRIP-tan) is used to treat migraine headaches. It helps

It is not used to prevent migraines.
Almotriptan may be taken with or without food.
This medication belongs to a group called the triptans or 5-HT1 agonists.
Other 5HT1 agonists such as sumatriptan, zolmitriptan, naratriptan and
rizatriptan, or ergot-related medications such as ergotamine,
dihydroergotamine or methysergide, should not be taken within 24 hours

Certain medications used to treat depression may interact with almotriptan.
Discuss other medication use with your physician or pharmacist before
taking almotriptan.

you can take another tablet if it is at least 2 hours after the first dose.
Do not take more than two doses in any 24 hour period.
Side effects from this medication are infrequent and, if they occur, are
usually limited to mild feelings of tingling, numbness, warm or hot
sensations, heaviness, pressure or tightness (in particular in chest),
weakness, dizziness or drowsiness. If drowsiness occurs, do not drive or

If severe or persistent chest pain and pressure, or neck pain, occur,
contact your physician immediately.
If you experience shortness of breath; wheezing; visual changes; pounding
heart; skin rash; or sudden or severe abdominal pain, don't take any more
and contact your physician.
Other routine measures that may prevent or lessen severity of headache
symptoms should also be used, such as moving to a quiet darkened area and

earliest sign of headache.
