Beclomethasone is an anti-inflammatory steroid that is inhaled to control asthma, or inflammation of the lungs.

Do not use more often than prescribed. To do so increases the chance of
developing side effects.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is near the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.

Before you have any kind of surgery (including dental surgery) or emergency
treatment, tell the physician or dentist that you are on this medication. A
medication alert card or bracelet/necklace should be carried or worn, stating that you are on this medication.

Contact your physician if:
(a)     You are injured, or are going through a period of stress.
(b)     You have asthma attacks that cannot be controlled by
bronchodilator medications or your asthma seems worse, or if
your nasal condition does not improve after 3 weeks or if it
        worsens.
(c)     Breathing difficulty occurs.
(d)     Signs of infection e.g. chest pain, chills, fever, cough,
nasal, sinus, or chest congestion, change in sputum colour or
amount, sneezing or sore throat occur.
(e)     You develop creamy, white patches inside the mouth.
(f)     You notice unusual symptoms such as fast or irregular
heartbeat, change in weight or appetite, increased thirst,
lethargy, weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness, skin rash,
acne, muscle or joint pain, nausea or vomiting, fullness of
the face, back pain, menstrual changes, change in stool colour
or bowel habits, frequent urination, unexplained nosebleeds,
        change in mood.
(g)     Nasal irritation or sneezing persists following intranasal
        beclomethasone.
(h)     Frequent nosebleeds or crusting in the nose occur.

Do not use inhaled beclomethasone to treat an asthma attack as it will not
work. It is not a bronchodilator.

In order to be effective, it must be taken every day at regular intervals. It does not provide immediate effects and may take up to 4 weeks before a
full effect is seen.

If you are also prescribed a bronchodilator inhaler, avoid using it at the same time as the beclomethasone inhaler; wait at least 5 minutes after using the bronchodilator before using beclomethasone.

Use of the Aerosol Inhaler:

(a)     Obtain an instruction sheet from your pharmacist.
(b)     Shake well. Remove cap.
(c)     Moisten throat with a drink of water.
(d)     Tilt head back slightly. Breathe out gently.
(e)     Either: place mouthpiece well into mouth and close lips
firmly around it or place mouthpiece 2 fingerwidths away
        from mouth.
(f)     Press down on canister while inhaling slowly and deeply
        through mouth.
(g)     Hold breath as long as possible (5-10 seconds).
(h)     Breath out slowly, pursing lips. This may prevent cough.
(i)     Wait at least 1 minute before the next inhalation.
(j)     Clean the inhaler daily. Remove canister and rinse inhaler
        and cap in warm water.
(k)     Do not use expired canisters.
(l)     Keep canister away from excess heat. Protect from freezing.

Rinse mouth and gargle with water. Spit out the rinse water, do not swallow
it. Wash dentures if you wear them. This may help prevent sore throat or
mouth infection.

Keep this medication in a labelled container, out of the reach of children. Do not allow anyone else to use this medication.
