Ertapenem (er-ta-PEN-em) is an antibiotic used to treat infections caused
by bacteria. It is given by injection.
Inform your physician if you have ever had an allergic reaction to an
antibiotic, especially to penicillin or related drugs. Your physician
should also be aware of any medical conditions that you have, including a
history of seizures or kidney problems.
If you develop a rash, difficulty breathing, or any other sign of an
allergy, don not receive any more of the medication and contact your
physician immediately.
Side effects are uncommon.
Contact your physician if you develop any unusual or troublesome new
effects during therapy with this medication. Rarely, tremors, seizures, or
diarrhea can occur while being treated with this medication.
