Etravirine (e-tra-VIR-een) is an antiviral drug used to treat patients
infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Before taking this medication, be sure that your prescribing physician is
aware if you have any of the following conditions: history of previous
problems with this drug; liver disease.
The product contains lactose. Do not take it if you are lactose-intolerant.
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your physician. It must be
taken after a full meal in order to be effective.
If you are unable to swallow the tablets, they may be added to a glass of
plain water. Stir until the tablets are uniformly dispersed. Drink all of
the liquid immediately. Rinse the glass with water several times and drink
the remaining liquid.
If you miss a dose, take it following a meal when you remember unless there
are less than 6 hours before the next dosage time. In that case, skip the
missed dose and then resume your usual schedule. Do not take a double dose
to make up for a missed dose.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are
breast-feeding, discuss the use of this medication with your physician.
If a rash or any unexpected or serious reactions occur, notify your
physician. If a severe rash occurs, stop taking this medication and contact
your physician.
This medication may interact with many other medications. Make sure that
your physician is aware of all of the medications that you are taking. Do
not take any new medications or herbal products without first discussing
this with your physician or pharmacist.
If you have experienced any unexpected or serious reactions to this drug,
this can be reported to Health Canada's monitoring program (tollfree

not an emergency number. Also ensure that your physicians are informed of
any adverse effects and record this for the future.
Store this medication in a labelled container, in a dry, cool place, out of
the reach of children.
