Fluticasone is a steroid that is instilled in the nose to relieve symptoms of rhinitis (e.g. stuffiness, sneezing, discharge), or to prevent the regrowth of nasal polyps after they are removed surgically.

Take this medication exactly as directed by your physician. Do not use more often than prescribed. To do so increases the chance of developing side effects.

If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible and then take the rest of the day's doses at evenly-spaced intervals.

In order to be effective, nasally inhaled fluticasone must be used regularly. Some relief is usually seen within a few days to 2 weeks.

Before you have any kind of surgery (including dental surgery) or emergency treatment, tell the physician or dentist that you are on this medication. A medication alert card or bracelet/necklace should be carried or worn, stating that you are on this medication.

Contact your physician if: (a) You are injured, or are going through a period of stress. (b) Your nasal condition does not improve after three weeks or if it worsens. (c) Signs of infection (e.g. chest pain, chills, fever, cough; nasal, sinus, or chest congestion; sneezing, sore throat, etc.) occur. (d) You develop creamy, white patches inside your mouth or nose. (e) You notice unusual symptoms such as fast or irregular heart beat, change in weight or appetite, increased thirst, lethargy, weakness, dizziness or lightheadedness, skin rash, acne, muscle or joint pain, nausea or vomiting, fullness of the face, back pain, menstrual changes, frequent urination, unexplained nosebleeds, change in mood. (f) Nasal irritation or sneezing persist or frequent nosebleeds or crusting in the nose occur.

To use the nasal spray: (a) Remove the cap. Shake the inhaler. (b) Hold the inhaler with your forefinger and middle finger on either side of the nozzle and your thumb underneath the bottle. (c) If using the spray for the first time or if it has not been used for a week or more, test the spray by pressing down on the nozzle several times until a fine mist comes out of the nozzle. (d) Gently blow your nose to clear the nasal passages. (e) Tilt your head forward slightly. (f) Insert the atomizer gently into one nostril, and close off the other nostril with a finger. (g) Start to breath in through your nose and while breathing in press down with fingers once to release spray. (h) Breathe out through your mouth. If another spray is required in that nostril, repeat (g) and (h). (i) Repeat in other nostril. (j) Wipe atomizer with a clean tissue, and pointing it away from your face, pump once to clear nozzle; replace cap. (k) You may experience some stinging or irritation in the nose at first, but this should decrease with continued use. (l) To clean the nozzle: Pull it gently from the bottle and wash in warm water. If nozzle is blocked, soak in warm water. Shake off water and allow to air dry avoiding excessive heat.

Keep the medication in the original labelled container and keep it out of the reach of children. Do not allow anyone else to use this medication.
