Fosamprenavir (FOS-am-pren-a-veer) is an antiviral drug used to treat
patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your physician, in the amount
prescribed. Taking more could increase the occurrence of adverse effects.
Take it regularly. Do not stop taking it without the approval of your
physician.
It may be taken with food or on an empty stomach.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember if it is within four
hours of the scheduled time. If it has been more than 4 hours, skip that
dose and take the next dose at the correct time. Do not take a double dose
to make up for a missed one.
If you have an allergy to sulfonamide drugs (sulfa drugs), are pregnant, or
with to breast feed, discuss the use of fosamprenavir with your physician
before taking it.
Patients with diabetes may need to monitor carefully for increased blood
sugar levels.
Caution if using Viagra (Sildenafil) or Cialis (vardenafil); the dose of
these medications should be reduced to avoid toxicity.
The action of this drug could be altered by taking other drugs. No other
drugs should be used without the knowledge of your physician. Do not use
herbal products containing St. Johns wort (Hypericum perforatum).
Since this drug may interact with oral hormonal contraceptives, an
alternative form of contraception is recommended.
This medication should not be taken for one hour before or after taking an
antacid.
This drug is usually well tolerated, although it may cause stomach upset.
Inform your physician if you notice any unusual or troublesome effects,
especially increased thirst, fatigue, frequent urination, weight loss, skin
rash, or change in body shape.
Note that this medication does not prevent the transmission of the
infection to other people, therefore care should be taken to avoid exposing
others.
Store this medication in its original container, away from heat, moisture
and light, and out of the reach of children.
