Infliximab (in-FLIX-i-mab) is an effective medicine to treat rheumatoid
arthritis and psoriatic arthritis. It is given by intravenous injection.
Because this drug suppresses your immune system, serious infections can
occur. If any signs of infection (such as fever, shivering, yellow/green
sputum, shortness of breath, cough, or pain when urinating) develop while
you are taking this drug, discontinue therapy and see your physician as
soon as possible.
Also tell your health care professional if you notice unexplained
confusion, visual changes, difficulty walking, tingling, yellow skin, pale
stools, brown urine, itch. As well, if the following symptoms develop while
you are taking this drug, consult your physician as soon as possible:
unexplained bruises, trouble breathing, unusual weakness, rash, weight
loss, feeling unwell, or any other unexpected symptoms.
Live vaccines should not be administered while taking this medication. Ask
before receiving any vaccinations if the vaccine is a live vaccine.
This medication should not be used during pregnancy or while
breast-feeding. Men and women must use adequate contraception and avoid
breast-feeding during treatment and for six months afterwards.
