Ketoconazole is used to treat common fungal infections.
For this medication to be effective, it must be used exactly as prescribed.
Complete the full course of therapy, even if your symptoms have already
improved.
If rash or increased irritation occur, stop taking this product and notify
your physician.
For skin cream:
(a) apply, and gently massage into the skin, to an area at least
2 cm wider than the visibly affected area, twice a day, morning
and evening.
The area is usually cleaned and dried before applying the drug.
Continue treatment until healing is complete. This usually takes
several weeks.
Check with your physician if no improvement occurs within
four weeks.
(b) generally the area should be kept as dry as possible.
Avoid tight fitting underclothes (especially nylon), as they may
create a warm, moist environment which may favour the growth of
yeast. Do not cover with occlusive dressings such as plastic
kitchen wrap.
(c) proper hygiene and skin care are necessary to prevent the spread
or recurrence of infection. Underclothes and stockings should be
changed daily.
Do not share linen or towels with others if possible.
(d) if treating athlete's foot: to help prevent reinfection, dry your
feet thoroughly after bathing, wear clean cotton socks instead of
wool or synthetics, and wear sandals when possible. Avoid walking
barefoot over communal surfaces such as changing room floors and
do not share shoes or socks.
For shampoo:
(a) Wet hair and scalp well with water
(b) Apply enough shampoo to work up a good lather and gently massage
it over your entire scalp.
(c) Rinse hair and scalp with warm water.
(d) Repeat application.
(e) Rinse your hair and scalp well with warm water, and then dry your
hair.
Store this medication in the original labelled container at room
temperature, out of the reach of children.
