Maraviroc (mah-RAV-er-rock) is an antiviral drug used to treat patients
infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
Before taking this medication, be sure that your prescribing physician is
aware if you have any of the following conditions: history of adverse
reactions to this medication; cardiovascular disease; postural hypotension
or low blood pressure; liver disease; kidney disease; all medication that
you take including natural products and herbal supplements.
Take this medication as prescribed by your physician. It may be taken with
food.
If you miss a dose, take it when you remember unless there are less than 6
hours before the next dosage time. In that case, skip the missed dose and
then resume your usual schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a
missed dose.
This medication may cause you to feel faint or dizzy, especially when
getting up from a lying position. Avoid standing up suddenly; sit first and
stand up slowly. Avoid driving and operating dangerous machinery until you
know how this drug affects you.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are
breast-feeding, discuss the use of this medication with your physician.
If rash, yellow skin, abdominal pain, nausea, chest pain, infection, or any
other unexpected or serious reactions occur, notify your physician.
If you have experienced any unexpected or serious reactions to this
medication, this can be reported to Health Canada's monitoring program
(tollfree telephone 1-866-234-2345, tollfree fax 1-866-678-6789). Note that
this is not an emergency number. Also ensure that your physicians are
informed of any adverse effects and record this for the future.
Store this medication in a labelled container, in a dry, cool place, out of
the reach of children.
