Metronidazole is used to treat infections of the genitourinary tract and
other body systems.
Take the medication exactly as prescribed. It is important to take all of
the medication. Do not stop taking it until the prescription is all gone,
even if you are feeling better.
If this medication upsets your stomach, it may be taken with food or milk.
Side effects are infrequent and usually mild. Some people experience an
unusual or metallic taste although this will subside with time. If any
persistent or particularly annoying effects occur, such as diarrhea,
numbness or tingling in hands or feet, or dizziness, contact your physician
or pharmacist.
This drug may darken urine or colour it red-brown. This is not harmful.
Avoid alcoholic beverages while on this medication and for 48 hours after
discontinuing it as an unpleasant reaction with alcohol can occur (nausea,
flushing, severe headache).
If you are taking this medication for a genital infection, do not wear
tight underwear or those made of silk, nylon, dacron, or other synthetic
fabrics.
Keep this medication in a labelled container, out of the reach of children.
Do not allow anyone else to use this medication.
