Penicillamine is a medication that is used in the treatment of rheumatoid
arthritis as well as in certain inherited diseases.
When used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, several months of
therapy may be required before any benefit is experienced.
Take the medication precisely as prescribed; it must be taken regularly to
be effective. Do not stop taking the drug without your physician's advice.
Take your medication on an empty stomach (1 hour before or 2 hours after
meals).
Report to your physician should you develop a fever, sore throat, chills,
rash, unusual bruising or bleeding.
Inform your physician if you become pregnant or might become pregnant.
Stay in very close contact with your physician. He/she will wish to
carefully monitor how effective the medication is for your condition, and
also to monitor you for the development of possible side effects. To allow
all your health care professionals access to important information about
your health, a monitoring card to record results of lab tests and side
effects may be considered.
Store this medication in its original labelled container at room
temperature, out of the reach of children.
