Pyrantel pamoate is used to treat common intestinal pinworm and roundworm
infections, as well as other parasitic infections.
Take the medication exactly as prescribed by your physician. Usually one
or, in some cases, 2-3 doses are sufficient to cure most infections.
If desired, the medication may be taken with food or with milk or fruit
juices. If you are using the suspension, shake it well before measuring a
dose. Use a calibrated measuring spoon to accurately measure.
Side effects are very infrequent, mild, and usually limited to minor
stomach discomfort.
In the treatment of pinworms, it is usually suggested that all members of a
household be treated, since the infection may be present in some
individuals with no noticeable signs or symptoms.
To use the oral paste syringe:
(a) Remove the syringe tip.
(b) Turn the dial ring until the edge of the ring nearest the tip
lines up with zero.
(c) Depress the plunger to advance paste to the tip.
(d) Determine your weight.
(e) Set the dial ring to the setting nearest your weight.
(f) Open your mouth and deposit the paste on the back of your tongue
by depressing the plunger.
In addition to using the medication, the following steps will also
help ensure that pinworm infections are effectively eliminated.
(a) Scrub hands and fingernails with soap and water often, especially
after using the toilet and before meals.
(b) Clean and disinfect toilet facilities daily.
(c) Take a thorough shower or bath every day.
(d) Change undergarments, bed linens, towels and nightclothes daily.
Store this medication in its original labelled container at room
temperature, out of the reach of children.
