Sitagliptin (sit-a-GLIP-tin) is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes.
While you are on this medication, it is important to follow a proper diet
and exercise regularly. Blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin should be
tested regularly to ensure that this medication is working.
Before taking this medication, be sure that your prescribing physician is
aware if you have any of the following conditions: allergy or a history of
a reaction to this medication; kidney disease; liver disease; heart
failure.
Take this medication as prescribed by your physician. It may be taken with
meals or on an empty stomach. It is usually taken once a day. Taking it at
the same time each day will make it easier to remember.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, do not take two
doses on the same day.
This medication is generally well tolerated. Some patients may develop
headaches. Discuss any symptoms of concern with your physician.
If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, or if you are
breast-feeding, discuss the use of this medication with your physician.
If symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) occur (weakness,
palpitations, sweating, confusion), take some sugar and notify your
physician.
If you have experienced any unexpected or serious reactions to this drug,

not an emergency number. Also ensure that your physicians are informed of
any adverse effects and record this for the future.
Store this medication in a labelled container, in a dry, cool place, out of
the reach of children.
