Telbivudine (tel-BI-vyou-deen) is used to treat hepatitis B.
Before taking this medication, inform your physician if you have kidney
disease; a history of lactic acidosis or muscle disease; if you are
pregnant or breast-feeding.
Before starting this medication, inform your physician of all other
medications that you are taking.
This medication is usually taken once a day. Taking it at the same time
each day will help you to remember. It can be taken with food or on an
empty stomach.
If you miss a dose, take it when you remember. If it is almost time for the
next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regularly
scheduled time. Do not double a dose to make up for a missed one.
Inform other physicians that you are receiving this drug.
This drug is usually well tolerated, although headache or fatigue may
occur. Inform your physician if you notice any unusual or troublesome
effects, especially unexplained muscle pain or weakness, nausea, abdominal
pain, lack of appetite, trouble breathing, dark urine, pale stools, or
yellow skin.
Do not stop taking this drug without talking with your physician. Severe
hepatitis B symptoms may occur after discontinuation of this drug. Visit
your physician regularly for regular monitoring of your condition while
taking this drug and for a period after discontinuing it.
This drug does not prevent transmission of hepatitis B to other people.
Talk to your physician about ways to prevent transmission of hepatitis.

this can be reported to Health Canada's monitoring program (toll free
telephone 1-866-234-2345, toll free fax 1-866-678-6789). Note that this is
not an emergency number. Also ensure that your physicians are informed and
record all reactions for the future.
Store this medication in its original container, away from heat, light and
moisture, and out of the reach of children.
