overactive bladder. Symptoms can include the frequent need to urinate or
the inability to control urination.
This medication can be taken with food or milk to lessen stomach upset.
Take it with a full glass of water.
The tablets (Detrol) are usually given twice a day.
The extended-release capsules (Unidet) are usually given once a day.
If you are using the extended-release capsules (Unidet) be sure to swallow
the capsule whole. Do not chew, crush or break the capsule.
This medication may take several weeks to produce an effect. Full effect
may be seen after 8 weeks.
Tell your physician or pharmacist if you are taking any prescription
medications or over-the-counter medications. Since tolterodine can interact
with various medications, the dose of one or both drugs may need to be
changed.
If you forget to take a tablet (Detrol) at the usual time, take it as soon
as you remember unless it is time for the next one. Continue to take the
remaining doses as before.
If you forget to take an extended-release capsule (Unidet), take it as soon
as you remember unless it is almost time for the next dose. In that case,
skip the missed dose and just take the next dose. Do not take a double dose
to make up for a missed dose.
Discuss with your physician if you become pregnant while taking this drug.
Women who could become pregnant should use contraception while taking it.
